Ok, now, those of you who are doing this. You are good, okay? I mean, overwhelming key servers that monitor global internet traffic? Wow, I don’t even know what that means, but I did feel the slowness in my own computer while I was trying to view my latest Youtube favorite snippet. It’s not funny anymore, okay, you can stop messing around with those servers now.

Here are some of the new things I have picked up recently:
Golf. I bought my first set of golf clubs two weeks ago and went to the driving range with a couple of friends. I even skipped church last Sunday to attend my first golf lesson from a “Pro”. All this because I found out that I was supposed to play golf with our management, along with executives from a vendor, at work. Hope I end up being able to hit the ball, hit it straight and not waste other people’s time on the course! What I have learned, though, is that golfing is a matter of body motion and not so much arm motion or strength. It has to do with posture, mindset and flow. No wonder so many life coaches, motivational speakers and preachers like to use golf in their illustrations. I have found that there are many lessons that one can apply to life from learning and playing golf. Read the rest of this entry »

UPDATE: Someone reminded me that what we experienced here was not a “rolling black-out” but instead was a rude interruption to services. Since the blackout, my washing machine broke (it doesn’t spin anymore) and one of my microwave oven blew out. So, I could claim compensation from the power company. So, whatdya think?
It has happened before here in California during the anarchical days of the Enron-induced energy crisis. But this time it probably came through a more “natural” means. The heat wave that has sent the mercury topping over one hundred degrees for a couple of weeks probably also caused excessive use of electricity resulting in a strain on the supplies. It hit my area of SoCal yesterday and we were part of the inevitable “rolling blackouts”. We were without power for more than twenty four hours. Can you imagine it? Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I arrived in Boston two nights ago, and yesterday spent most of the day exploring parts of Boston downtown, especially, Chinatown. I am here for the Microsoft annual Worldwide Partner Conference, a big love-fest of Microsofties as they call themselves (employees of Microsoft Corporation) and those who sell and provide services for Microsoft products (aka Business Partners).
My boss has a friend who is one of the ministers at the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church, so we took the opportunity to attend one of the services there. We picked the 1:00 p.m. “contemporary service”. Since it is at Chinatown, we took the opportunity to savor some of the best food there. Ended up having dimsum lunch at a restaurant and later returned to dine at another place. Read the rest of this entry »

I feel it already.
Yesterday, Daughter #1 needed to get out to Glendale for an interview (for summer internship), and to get there, she had to get on the Amtrak (beause L.A.’s transportation system, specifically the metrolink trains, doesn’t work mid-morning through mid-day, at least not in our area) and then catch a bus (a trip that takes an hour and a half). On her way back, she called to let me know she is on the Surfliner and could I pick her up from the Irvine Train Station?
Sure thing, I said, like any good father. I packed up, jumped into my car and got going. I stopped to fill up the gas, but when I tried to re-start the car, it made some strange gurggling noises and then refused to start. I panicked, but luckily a kind man on the other island saw my predicament, came over and got a jumper cable off his car, spun his car around and jump started my car. Thanking him, and exchanging business cards, I jumped back to my car and got onto the freeway.
Wrong move. Read the rest of this entry »
