Send Me Some “Favorite” Technorati Luv

    27th July 2006

love_hearts.jpgWas snooping around Technorati today and saw a few brand new features (correction: newly noticed features, since the features might have been there for a little while, but I only noticed it today).

Included in the features that I noticed was this one: you can mark blogs that you like as your “favorites”, and the blog owner can then go to their “favorited” folder and feel the love. It’s easy, just click on this image here favorite-this-blog.png and you will have mark this blog as your favorite on Technorati, and then you will show up in my “favorited” folder.

Please do it, for I feel rather unloved, since the folder is empty as of right now! :)

    Blackout

    23rd July 2006

blackout_candle.jpgUPDATE: Someone reminded me that what we experienced here was not a “rolling black-out” but instead was a rude interruption to services. Since the blackout, my washing machine broke (it doesn’t spin anymore) and one of my microwave oven blew out. So, I could claim compensation from the power company. So, whatdya think?

It has happened before here in California during the anarchical days of the Enron-induced energy crisis. But this time it probably came through a more “natural” means. The heat wave that has sent the mercury topping over one hundred degrees for a couple of weeks probably also caused excessive use of electricity resulting in a strain on the supplies. It hit my area of SoCal yesterday and we were part of the inevitable “rolling blackouts”. We were without power for more than twenty four hours. Can you imagine it? Read the rest of this entry »

    In Boston for the week

    10th July 2006

parkstreetchurch.jpgWell, I arrived in Boston two nights ago, and yesterday spent most of the day exploring parts of Boston downtown, especially, Chinatown. I am here for the Microsoft annual Worldwide Partner Conference, a big love-fest of Microsofties as they call themselves (employees of Microsoft Corporation) and those who sell and provide services for Microsoft products (aka Business Partners).

My boss has a friend who is one of the ministers at the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church, so we took the opportunity to attend one of the services there. We picked the 1:00 p.m. “contemporary service”. Since it is at Chinatown, we took the opportunity to savor some of the best food there. Ended up having dimsum lunch at a restaurant and later returned to dine at another place. Read the rest of this entry »

    Win Free Book!

    6th July 2006

winfreestuff.gifIf you’re like me, you like to win free stuff!

So, here’s a chance to win a free book. Blogging for Business is giving away a free book (Blogging for Business) to the top three posts about blogging for business. As you are already aware, businesses are taking to blogging seriously. Entrepreneurs, consultants, even big businesses are blogging about their work, their products and services.

When I was at Convergence this year, the annual Microsoft User Conference, I hear them talk about blogs with great enthusiasm. There those blogs that were discussing trends and events at the conference and there were also blogs that had been created specifically for the conference. Since then, I have seen an increase in the number of blogs that were talking about the latest in Microsoft technology.

It makes sense, because as someone else has said, the marketplace is a conversation. Sounds like the bigger we get, the smaller we become. In any case, if you are interested, put together your business blogging posts and submit it to Blogging for Business so you can snag yourself a prize!

New Addition to my LibraryThing Catalog

    6th July 2006

I have just added the latest book by Tom Morris, If Harry Potter Ran General Electric to my LibraryThing catalog. Morris is an erswhile philosophy professor extraordinarire turned business success and achievement coach and guru who also wrote the acclaimed If Aristotle Ran General Motors (which is also part of my LT catalog). I mentioned LibraryThing the other day, and it is not just a cool catalog that you can create to keep track of your books. You can also use it to track books you have read that your like (or dislike) and find others who may have read or who own the same books.

Just looking at my profile, I can see that I share many books with quite a number of seminarians and other academics. So, what does this tell about me? I am neither, and work in corporate world as a sales guy! The thing is I love my job and I also love to read what I read! I guess you can say that I am an enigma!

Anyway, this latest addition to my catalog is quite an interesting read. I have just begun reading it, and already I like it. So, how do you fancy Harry Potter as CEO?

    Raw Spirituality

    3rd July 2006

refereepenalty.jpgOf late, I have been thinking about the kind of spirituality that God has called us to enter into, and when I was reading this post at Cynical Idealist’s blog helped me to clarify some of my thoughts a little better. In her post, Cynical was vexing a little about the sins that some of her peers were getting into, and worried about people who were too callous with this or that sin. One of those worries has to do with those who were flippant about, or were actually reveling in, premarital sex.

Too often, I think, our culture (generally speaking, not just Christian culture, however you define the adjective, but the whole Western Culture, and to a large degree, contemporary culture in all its forms: Western, Middle Eastern, African or Eastern, for that matter), is too fixated with an activity-centered religiosity or an behavioral oriented spirituality. Furthermore, our spirituality seems to be likened to the soccer players who tries to play the game, pushing the rules just enough to be able to win without getting fouled by the referee. Spotlight Turned on…

    1st July 2006

limelight.jpgUPDATE: For all those who saw this post in Technorati, but couldn’t find it on this site, here is what happened: I accidentally marked this post as private! Sorry about this!

I have heard the name before… just don’t remember from where. Steve Farber, author of Radical Edge recently highlighted my blog profile over at his blog. Steve is also CEO of Extreme Leadership, Inc., a business consulting firm and is apparently a popular keynote speaker on business leadership. He also was a highly popular speaker and consultant with the Tom Peters Group.

Not sure why he found my profile exemplary, because to me I think some of the stuff I wrote might be considered “TMI”, but I guess at the time, I thought, “Why, this is a blog after all, and I need to at least feature some of the half interesting events in my life for my profile.”

Still, it is quite satisfying being mentioned. So, if you have come over here via Steve’s site, welcome! Even though this isn’t a professional blog, you might find some stuff here quite thought provoking. Search under business, ethics and leadership for some of my thoughts in those areas. And, don’t forget to leave me a comment and let me know you’re here!
