Be thankful I am not your interior decorator

    5th November 2005

So, they switched time back to non-daylight savings time over the past weekend. By the way, did you notice? Anyways, I went round the house turning a few of the clocks back. And, I did the one at work too. Funny thing is, when I replaced the clock back on the wall at work, it was kind of misaligned. One of my colleagues at work caught that and promptly asked me to straigthen it up.

The clock is slightly off...No real problem there. But this afternoon as I was sitting on the lounge watching TV, I realized that I had done the exact same thing with the wall clock in our living room. Took me this long to realize this because this is the first time in the past week I had time to sit and watch the telly. But, I was looking at the clock and it was showing five in the afternoon, but I had to look closer because it looked more like five minutes past six. Then, I realized that the clock wasn’t straight!

What do you call this kind of dysfunction - the inability to place a clock straight on the wall: angle-dyslexia?

Everything doesn’t happen for a reason

    5th November 2005

I mentioned this in passing the other day in another post about something else, but there is this saying that people like to use, especially when things don’t go the way we want or hoped. “Everything happens for a reason.” It is one of those phrases that seem to sound biblical but is not only not in the Bible, but is possibly contrary to the biblical message.

With so many tragedies and disasters happening over this past year, you might be a little weary to read another post about bad things happening and what it all means. However, recently, something really tragic and personal occured in a church in Texas that many people have been talking about it. It is not everyday that you see a pastor being electrocuted at a baptismal service. Ironically, this same pastor had a few things to say about God’s will, tragedies and suffering. Christianity Today reprinted some of what he had to say about Romans 8:28. It is an excellent article, and I recommend it highly.
