    Restless wristfingers syndrome?

    1st November 2005

I just saw this on TV: restless leg syndrome. I have never heard of this before, so I googled it, and received an education. I now know that this is probably something quite serious, but when I first heard it on TV, I thought it had to do with those people who like to shake their legs involuntarily when they are seated. I wonder if it has anything to do with that behavior

Which reminds me of another behavior or mannerism that I have noticed. Some young people like to twirl their pens around their wrists or fingers. This is especially so among those people who work with computers in their day to day jobs. You see, I sell high-tech solutions (software, consulting) and in my work, I get to meet with a lot of these folks. And, during these meetings they like to twirl their pens, pencils, or whatever else they are holding in their hands at the time. Truth be told, when I was younger, I too succumbed to this habit, twirling pens one way and then the other way around my wrist. My claim to fame during those heyday was twirling a pen on each wristhand at the same time hours on end. How the heck did I do it? I wonder if this habit/mannerism/behavior can be considered some kind of restless wristfingers syndrome (you could say, I had ambidextrous restless wristfingers syndrome!) and if there is come kind of medication for it too?

    The idea sounds great, but…

    1st November 2005

According to this Washington Post article, there are now healthcare plans that people of faith can join in order to provide healthcare for their families. Apparently, in order to join and benefit from these plans, you need to commit to a lifestyle that is free from the sins that matter, you know, the scandalous ones. Perhaps the Washington Post report has misreported, or had put a “liberal” or “left-wing” or “MSM” (whatever that means! I know it stands for Mainstream Media, but whatever that connotes!) twist to the story, but I cringe, when I read the part about their “[members'] greatest sin is racing down to the buffet after the sermon”.

At Evangelical Outpost, Joe Carter endorses these plans as the practical outworking of the “bearing one another’s burdens” injunctions of the New Testament.

It all sounds like a great idea. However as I read both the post and the article, something gnawed at me. Somehow, I am reminded of some comments I heard last Sunday. As I was sitting in church listening to my pastor speak, I was struck with something he said.
