“We’re not the brightest of people – rugby players – but a warning like that sunk in pretty quick.” …
“We basically stayed away. We were in the pool having a quiet Bintang (beer) and we said to each other … what this guy, our mate, said about not going out on the Saturday night and then we went up to our rooms and we heard that the bombs had actually gone off,” he said.
“So it was quite freakish that those warnings are out.

Taking the cue from Adrian, I thought I’d post my brotherly encouragement to Messy Christian who is experiencing the blues when it comes to church-going.
Hey Messy, it does sound scary to those of us who have been schooled in the traditional way of thinking that translate “church” = “sanctuary” = “the presence of God” = “where God’s people are (or should be)” = “where God’s work is done.” etc. when we hear of people shying away from fellowship with other Christians or skip attending worship services.
Unfortunately the above equation is not true. None of that necessarily mean church if by “church” we mean, the place, the gatherings or even the people (While some NT words for “church” means “people of God” that doesn’t always translate to the group of people we see or find at church these days) Read the rest of this entry »
